The Need for Youth EE Project Assistance
EE has not been a typical aspect of public K-12 education. As a result, there has been a general lack of environmental awareness in our society. However, this is changing. Teaching methods and curriculum are being reinvented. New teaching methods are being developed to teach environmental science as well as improve the quality of instruction of other subjects. As school budgets tighten, non-profit organizations like NWEEC are becoming more involved with EE in our public schools and our communities. Increased involvement by nonprofit organizations is necessary to ensure the EE movement continues.
Advancing Youth EE
NWEEC assists in school-based environmental education needs for K-12 students. This support takes varied forms, as determined by the needs of the schools, students and NWEEC. The type of assistance that NWEEC provides includes EE expertise; resources such as books, equipment, or contacts with other organizations or efforts; personnel to participate in EE projects; and occasionally financial assistance. NWEEC's objective is that school EE programs will foster healthy, productive, environmentally-aware young adults. Funds for NWEEC's environmental education programs are raised by its fee-based professional training programs and public and private grants.
